My name is Mr. Park, and my family stayed in Rooms 818 and 1412 at the Waldorf Astoria Shanghai from June 4 to June 7 for three nights. Our trip was especially meaningful because it was a celebration of our 10th wedding anniversary. We chose your hotel with great anticipation, hoping to create precious memories together. What we experienced far exceeded every expectation we had. I would like to express my deepest and most sincere gratitude to Mr. Leo Wang and Ryan at the Front Desk. Their kindness, professionalism, genuine warmth, and exceptional hospitality transformed our stay into something truly unforgettable. Throughout our visit, they treated us not merely as guests, but as valued friends. Every interaction was filled with care, respect, and a level of attentiveness that is exceedingly rare even among the world's finest luxury hotels. Their willingness to help, their thoughtful consideration of our needs, and the sincerity of their service touched us in a way that words can hardly describe. As someone who has stayed in many excellent hotels around the world, I can honestly say that the service provided by Leo Wang and Ryan ranks among the very best experiences I have ever encountered. They were not simply performing their duties; they embodied the true spirit of hospitality and created moments that my family will remember for the rest of our lives. Because of them, our 10th wedding anniversary became more than a vacation—it became a cherished life memory. Even now, after returning home, we continue to talk about their kindness and the happiness they brought to our journey. Please convey our heartfelt appreciation to both Leo Wang and Ryan. They are outstanding ambassadors of your hotel and deserve the highest recognition, commendation, and praise from the management team. If there is any employee recognition program, award, or commendation within your organization, I sincerely hope that their extraordinary service will be acknowledged. Thank you once again for providing such an exceptional experience. We look forward to returning in the future and creating more wonderful memories at your hotel. With deepest gratitude and warmest regards, Mr. Park Stay Dates: June 4–7 Rooms: 818 & 1412 P.S What impressed us even more is that this experience has already influenced our future travel plans. In November this year, my parents will celebrate their 70th birthday, a milestone that is deeply meaningful to our family. After experiencing the extraordinary hospitality of your hotel, we have decided to book Waldorf Astoria Shanghai for this special family celebration as well. We want our parents to experience not only the grandeur, elegance, and beauty of Shanghai, but also the exceptional warmth, professionalism, and heartfelt service that made our own anniversary trip so unforgettable. We can think of no better place to celebrate such an important occasion. The trust and confidence we now have in your hotel are entirely the result of the remarkable experience created by your team, especially Leo Wang and Ryan. They have not only earned our gratitude but also our loyalty. We are already looking forward to returning and creating another treasured family memory at Waldorf Astoria Shanghai.
Our two nights stay were amazing. Room was clean and spacious. Staff were welcoming and courteous from start to finish. Enjoyed the breakfast buffet offerings at the Grand Brasserie, restaurant team did a fantastic job, as a foodie lover, we enjoyed the breakfast buffet offerings. Our in room food orders were on point! Delicious carbonara and pizza. If we were to comeback to Shanghai, Waldorf Astoria is on the top of our list. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a truly 5 star luxurious hotel with a great location.
Unparalleled luxury and the highlight of our stay. I wish I could give the Waldorf Astoria Shanghai on the Bund 10 stars! This hotel is an absolute architectural masterpiece, especially the stunning lobby that captures the grandeur of the historic Shanghai Club. Every detail, from the heritage design to the modern comforts, makes you feel like you are in the lap of luxury. The rooms are simply stunning. I was particularly impressed by the high-tech features in the bathroom, like the TV embedded in the mirror and the premium amenities. The regular room was equally incredible, and having a great selection of TV options in English was a welcome touch that made winding down so much easier. What truly sets this hotel apart, however, is the staff. They are easily the nicest people I have ever met. They spoke excellent English and went out of their way to assist us, from helping book taxis to providing thoughtful recommendations for sightseeing. Their professionalism and genuine kindness made our visit to Shanghai unforgettable. If you are looking for the pinnacle of luxury and service, this is the place to stay.
We had a fantastic stay as part of the Adventures by Disney tour, although there are areas for improvement in what is meant to be a 5* hotel. The hotel itself is beautiful, the blend of new and old done well, and the pool was a joy, albeit chilly. Our room was in the modern wing but was large, and we liked the separate dressing room. The bathroom was lovely and I enjoyed a late night bubble bath one evening. The downside was that a) the opening to the refillable water bottles was tricky and cut my finger, b) the lights were a nightmare to navigate and the automatic one in the dressing room was painful if your room mate is still sleeping, and c) there needs to be a way to prevent light from the bathroom flooding the bedroom at night. Everything was super clean though, and we had a part Bund view which was lovely at night. The breakfast was plentiful and tasty - a prepared option plus the buffet. A negative was that the staff were too busy to really engage which means service dropped (it took ages to reorder tea and the wrong tea was provided). Service in the Long Bar was equally slow, although our cocktails were good. Service was mixed. The welcome was wonderful, and check-out and car transfer were handled well. But there were two unacceptable issues that arose which negatively impacted our stay. The first was that a parcel sent from our hotel in Beijing was delivered to the wrong room which created a security risk. Secondly, I had a call demanding that I come to reception at 11.30pm to pay my hotel deposit which had already been done earlier that day. I think the call was from the bar as we had charged our drinks to the room. It turned out that they hadn’t recorded the transaction properly - luckily I had the pending transaction showing in my online banking and had kept the receipt - but the staff were rude and made me feel like I had made an error when it was their mistake. This was not expected at a hotel of this calibre.
Am posting this feedback while I am still staying at the property, with the intention of providing constructive input for improvement. 1. Room readiness and attention to detail Upon entering the room, there was a cake, a magazine, and children’s slippers that appeared to be from previous occupants. If the cake was intended as a welcome amenity, there was no note or indication to that effect, which caused confusion and reflected a lapse in housekeeping checks. 2. Late-night disturbance At 11:35pm, I received a VISIT from a hotel attendant asking to verify a charge to my room because someone else had requested it. Being contacted nearly at midnight for such a matter was highly unusual and disruptive. In over two decades of frequent travel, I have never encountered this situation. 3. Inconsistency at check-in During check-in, I specifically asked about the availability of a Bund-view room and the possibility of an upgrade. I was informed that such rooms were completely booked until the New Year. However, a different member of the reception team later advised that Bund-view rooms were in fact available, albeit at an additional charge of 400–1,000 yuan per night. This inconsistency was disappointing. If paid upgrades were available, this should have been clearly communicated upfront rather than the request being outright dismissed. I am sharing this feedback sincerely, as I believe service consistency and attention to detail are critical for a property of this standing. I hope this will be helpful for future improvement.
